Objectives of the BAVBD Biosafety Task Force

 Continuous Objectives:

  • Addressing and resolving emerging biosafety-related questions and challenges while providing support for both fieldwork and laboratory operations in compliance with international standards and best practices.

  • Continuously monitoring relevant legislation and recommendations, and providing regular updates to the organization’s members.

  • Showcasing BAVBD’s biosafety activities and developments through various professional channels and conferences.

Short-Term Objectives:

  • As a network of research institutions, BAVBD is eligible for membership in the International Federation of Biosafety Associations (IFBA). Therefore, a short-term goal is to gain recognition as a Regional Member Association.

  • Establishing contact with the European Biosafety Association (EBSA) and joining as a partner organization.

Medium-Term Objectives:

  • Mapping differences in legal frameworks affecting members' activities and exploring possibilities for implementing a "common minimum" standard.

  • Assessing the biosafety activities of members and identifying specializations and expert competencies.

  • Developing a standardized biosafety manual and biorisk management system that aligns with international standards for all members.

Other Goals

  • Based on the medium-term objectives, establishing and implementing recurring biosafety and Good Microbiological Practice and Procedure (GMPP) training and workshops for members.
